Follow this calm, linear sequence. There are no alternate paths.
1. Immigration → Baggage → Customs (1.5–2 hours)
Everything is clearly signed in English.
Immigration → show passport
Baggage claim → collect bags
Customs → simple questions, walk through
TIP: Use restrooms after immigration — clean and unhurried.
2. Get Cash (ATMs)
Use a 7-Eleven ATM inside the airport
Withdraw ¥30,000–¥40,000
You can easily get more later
3. Activate eSIM / Wi-Fi
Takes 2–5 minutes
You now have full signal for Google Maps
4. Follow Signs → TRAINS / RAILWAYS
Follow the large English signs:
➡️ TRAIN
➡️ RAILWAYS
➡️ TO TOKYO
Haneda is extremely intuitive.
5. Haneda → Tokyo Station
Route (simple and reliable):
Tokyo Monorail → Hamamatsucho
JR Yamanote Line → Tokyo Station
Total time: ~20–30 minutes
Easy transfer, short walk between platforms.
6. Tokyo Station → Shinkansen Area
You are now inside Japan’s main rail hub.
Follow signs for:
➡️ SHINKANSEN (Bullet Train)
➡️ Tokaido / Sanyo Line
➡️ Kyoto / Osaka
7. Buy Shinkansen Tickets (Tokyo → Kyoto)
Go to the Midori-no-Madoguchi (JR Ticket Office) or a machine.
Ask for:
“Two reserved seats on the next Nozomi to Kyoto, please.”
Travel time: ~2 hr 15 min
Cost: ~¥14,000 per person
TIP: Ask for seats on the right side for possible Mt. Fuji views.
8. Board the Shinkansen
Stand on the painted line for your car number
Train arrives exactly on time
Board, stow bags, relax
Snacks on the platform are excellent and easy.
9. Ride Tokyo → Kyoto (~2 hr 15 min)
Quiet, smooth, comfortable.
Fields, towns, mountains — maybe Mt. Fuji.
10. Kyoto Station → Hotel Kanra Kyoto
From Kyoto Station:
Taxi (recommended): 5–10 minutes
Easy, inexpensive, zero navigation
OR short walk if you feel good
Then:
Check in at Hotel Kanra Kyoto
Drop bags
Eat something light nearby
Sleep early
